Changes in Catherine throughout the Play :: A View from the Bridge Arthur Miller Essays

Changes in Catherine throughout the PlayA View From A Bridge is a diddle by Arthur Miller. It is set in 1950sNew York. The play concentrates on a poor family and what happens whensome Italian relatives shine to stay, illegally. I have chosen toconcentrate on Catherine because I fell she undertakes the mostemotional changes throughout the play.Catherine is a 17 year old picayune girl who is still studying at school. Shelives with her Auntie and Uncle, Beatrice and Eddie. I went to see aproduction of the play at the Belgrade theatre in Coventry. Overallthe play was good. The first act was a little slow and tedious but thesecond act was excellent. They did rush the end part in which Eddiedies. Catherine was a little over the top and looked like she wastrying to seduce Eddie at one point. I liked how they ensured thatthey were all in the correct attire. Eddie wore a shirt and trouserswith a large belt. Both Catherine and Beatrice were in dresses withtheir hair tied up. Rodolfo had a big quiff and dresses like an oldfashioned teddy Boy. I thought the representation the stage revolved to givethe idea of a journey with superb. The play starts and Catherine comes in. She is very cheerful andtalkative with Eddie. She has a new skirt on and asks Eddie if helikes it. She tells him that its the style now. We can seefrom the start that she is very reliant on Eddie and she wants him toapprove of everything she does. This idea is establish when she hasnews for him. She has been offered a job but she has to cross out it isalright with Eddie. This gives the impression that Eddie has kept heraway from the world and has protected her. They then talk about thejob and Eddie agrees to let her take it.Catherines mood changes when she hears that Beatrices cousins arearriving. She is activated because she hasnt met galore(postnominal) people and has nosocial life. She wants to meet new people. When they arrive Catherineis in awe of them. She hasnt much experience with new people and sheis quite hyperactive. She asks many questions and we get theimpression that she is attracted to Rodolfo. She asks him if he ismarried? She likes the fact that he is blonde because there are notmany blonde men about. Hes practically ash-blonde We can tellCatherine is trying to make a good impression when Eddie says Whats
